SBC provides leadership training about gender issues that are negatively impacting their organizational effectiveness. This is done through developing effective business cases for gender equity; developing a gender equity strategy, and developing the right metrics to measure results.

 

About Sharon Barney

Sharon Barney, a senior executive with more than twenty years in construction, with experience in all aspects of the business, including estimating, bidding, and administering union contracts, developing benchmark safety programs and MIS. She’s a demonstrated visionary in gender equity issues in construction, engineering, and technology. A graduate with a B. A. from the University of Toronto, and a B. Comm. and an MBA from the University of Windsor, Sharon undertook original research on female career choice in non-traditional careers. Throughout her career in the construction industry, she has actively promoted equity for women.

Sharon Barney is a passionate leader, mentor, and coach and an innovative and resourceful communicator.  Sharon has a proven ability to transform companies into dynamic, learning organizations. Her specialities are in strategic analysis and organizational development. She has served terms as Founder and Chair of the Special Committee on Employment Equity for the Ontario Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Contractors; Chair of the Employment Standards Committee of the Council of Ontario Construction Associations; Member of the Government’s External Advisory Committee on Equity in Construction, and Director of NAWIC. She has also sat on the Board of the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine.

 

Speaking

Sharon is also a sought- after speaker and writer. She has been the keynote speaker for the WIE sections of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, The University of Ontario Institute of Technology, the IEEE Toronto and the IEEE International Congress. She has articles published in The Canadian Design and Construction Report and The Daily Commercial News on the link between gender equity and organizational performance. She has presented Webinars for IEEE WIE Toronto and International on the Gender Gap in Patenting and Commercialization.  She has also been profiled in the construction media as an expert on gender equity in construction, engineering, and technology.
